OUR HISTORY

The Bridgemere Show Gardens are located within Bridgemere Garden Centre and with a total area of 52 hectares (130 acres), is one of the largest Garden Centres in Europe, and receives around 500,000 annual visitors. The Garden Centre sells over 3,000 thousand plant varieties, many of which are grown in the nursery adjacent to the centre. 

The 6-acre (28,000 m2) gardens, dating from 1985, was designed to inspire amateur gardeners.  It is composed of more than 15 separate gardens, including The Cottage Garden, The Victorian Garden, Woodland Walk, The Pond and Waterfall Garden and the new Rose Garden. The Bridgemere Show Gardens also includes recreations of gold and silver medal, award-winning gardens from the RHS Chelsea, Hampton Court & Tatton Park Flower Shows, the Garden Festivals in Hanley and Liverpool as well as the garden in which the 1994-1997 television series 'Gardener's Diary' was filmed.

The Founder of the Gardens, John Ravenscroft, holds the Royal Horticultural Society Veitch Memorial Medal which is awarded to "persons of any nationality who have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement and improvement of the science and practice of horticulture"
He was awarded the RHS Victoria Medal of Honour in 2008.which is awarded to British horticulturists resident in the UK whom the RHS Council considers deserving of special honour by the Society    
He received it "for his plantsmanship, entrepreneurial talent and encyclopaedic knowledge of plants." He also won a lifetime achievement award from Garden Retail in 2007.

Now

In October 2019, Bridgemere Show Gardens and Bridgemere Garden Centre were bought by The Blue Diamond Group.  With everything that is horticulture at the heart of the business, Blue Diamond's ambitions for the gardens are vast.  

The Bridgemere Show Gardens are all about inspiring the amateur gardener and its horticultural credentials are impeccable.  With seasonal colour and interest, the gardens are great to visit all year round.

Our Friendly Team

Our friendly gardening team consists of four gardeners, including Head Gardener Bernard Porter and Gardener, Sam Farr. Bernard has 40 years experience in the gardens and Sam has 18 years.

 

Our gardeners will always make time to stop and discuss the planting with you on your visit and give you personalised advice should you need it.
